This girl lives at Nako, a Sherpa village at 4000 meters altitude about 25km from the Tibetan (Chinese) border.
Most children in high mountain areas suffer with skin damages due to over exposure to the sun which is extremely intensive at high altitudes. Look at her hands and cheeks. It seemed to me that they also suffer with a chronic cold as all of them had running noses. That, in turn leads to dried up mucous since almost every child I met was permanently trying to free there nasal passages. In plain English: They were digging their noses!
